Videos come in all shapes and sizes. Depending on what the aim of the video is determines what type is needed. That in turn decides what kind of running time you are looking for. Take for example the corporate video. Now statistics show that the average video length of a corporate promo is about 3 minutes and 30 seconds long. That is a pretty good bench mark for where you should be looking to keep your video.

Whereas, a pre-roll video (the  advertisements  that pop up right before you watch a YouTube clip) are a strict 30 seconds long. If your aim is to produce a advertisement that will be feature before each clip, then that means your video length cannot be past 30 seconds. Simple, huh.
