Hook the audience.

You need a strong opening. An immediate hook that will peak their interest in the first 5 seconds, otherwise your audience will move away. This will be the deciding factor in whether or not the viewer will stay for the rest of your message. Basically, give them a reason to not hit the back button.

But, be careful not to reveal everything at once though! Mystery is the backbone of narrative. And successful storytellers are the ones that will keep an audience’s attention by simply revealing more and more of their message as the content rolls on. This will keep the viewer stapled to the screen for the duration of your video.

Corporate Video Storytelling is about Relatablity.

Always remember that your message should have a human dimension to it. We are social creatures by nature. And the stories that we are drawn to the most are the ones that we can relate to. With that in mind, try to keep the subject matter to a connective level. This will ensure that the message will resonate much better with the viewer.

Another factor that you should be aware of is duration. Keep things moving at a comfortable pace. We have all heard a good joke in the past. The best ones are the kind that don’t waste your time with unnecessary details. They give you all the information needed to ensure that you’ll get the maximum amount of laughter out of the punchline. This same philosophy should be at work in your corporate video. Don’t get too bogged down with facts and figures. Connect emotionally with the viewer first. That will tap into their imagination, and thus allow the ideas behind your message to sink in better.

Remember: A good story can deliver a message. But a great story can inspire. Whatever narrative you choose for your corporate video, make sure that that it inspires your audience to take the right course of action.
