Community Web Video ProductionAudience Vs. Community: Web Video Productions

These days many companies are finding success in strategizing their marketing towards building a community online rather than an audience. While an audience is still a very powerful group of people, they still only watch what your doing. Building a community on the other hand can prove to be of benefit in the long run. This is because a community is interactive. It’s about creating a dialogue with people of shared interest. While some in the community may just be there to passively, that doesn’t mean that others are to! This is why it could be beneficial to consider building a community for your web video productions instead of an audience.

For many web video productions, audience is the biggest goal of them all. However, perhaps if you aimed for a community instead, you might actually get much more positive reactions from your marketing.

So how would one go about gathering a community with video?

Look at your content

Is the content of your marketing solely about you? Well, perhaps it might actually benefit to focus on the needs of the community rather than the needs of your business (Check out our Help Versus Hype Blog for more on that!). If people feel that you are providing a service before trying to hit your quota, then they would be quicker to join your community.

Work The Room

If you want that brand new web video production to really move around and build your community, then you have to be prepared to network online. Find the niche groups that would appreciate your content and target them. These days you don’t have to just throw your work into the open market. There are already established communities out there. Why not start with them!

Share The Spotlight

Okay, this one might be a bit crazy, but stay with me. Another way to build your community is to promote your community! This means that you should help others get their message out. (Isn’t that right David Siteman Garland!).

In turn, they will help you. So, if your putting your web video productions online with the hopes of people spreading it around, then perhaps you might look into sharing other people’s videos as well!

Analyze Everything

Community Consultant Mike Handy said it best: your “data is telling stories.” While you are building your community, make sure that you take the time to properly track the figures to see what is working best. This way, you’ll be able to locate and monitor the people that will make up your community.
