Beyond the Clouds is the seventh installment in one gallery's series of exhibitions showcasing artists emerging on the Irish scene.

This exhibition is a visual interpretation of feelings evoked by history.

Using the corporeal as a base, Katarzyna transforms it into emotional collages exploring annihilation, humanity, passion and melancholy. The various layers of paint in Beyond the Clouds reflect these competing sensations and conflicting voices. Katarzyna explains:

"The idea of bringing Irish and Polish history together in this project is very important in a personal dimension, as an artist now living in this country.

The biggest influx of people to Ireland presently is from Poland. Most of them do not know a lot about Irish history, but there are many similarities.

This body of work will be constructed as homage to the common ground of Irish and Polish History and inspired by historical events – especially Northern Ireland of the seventies and Poland of the eighties – to represent aspects

of connection therein: e.g., Polish independence in 1918 & the creation of the Irish Free state in 1922.

In this way, artistic emotion flows from, yet juxtaposes historical details, refracting the commonalities of our shared pasts."

Katarzyna graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in her home town of Warsaw in 2005. New to these shores, she is an accomplished artist in her native Poland.

one gallery is a non-profit, pro artist exhibition space housed in design company one production's building in city centre Dublin, where the attic studio white space is utilised to show interesting new artists working in any medium. Inspired by the early 19th & 20th century curio houses which, as well as being living or working spaces, doubled as active museums and galleries for art. In this sense, one gallery is a vehicle for creative research into the relationship between contemporary art and the domestic or the traditional work setting. The gallery charges no commission on sales.
